The Industrial Environment : Its Evaluation and Control
Industrial hygiene is the science of protecting mans health through the control of the work environment. They react upon each other in the form of a give-and-take relationship. Frequently it is assumed that man moves through his environment and molds it to his desires; however, it may be more productive to think of the environment and man as moving through and changing each other simultaneously.rn

rnHistorically, there was very little concern for protecting the health of the worker prior to 1900. Mans life, at the dawn of civilization, was a struggle for existence, and the more job of survival was an occupational disease.
